Andrew Baker

Chief External Affairs Officer at Canadian Olympic Committee

Andrew Baker is an 18-year veteran of the Olympic world, joining the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) in 2005 and participating in seven Olympics, four Pan American Games and three Youth Olympic Games. Over this time, Andrew assumed increasingly senior roles within the operations of Team Canada at the Games, overseeing a significant expansion of the level of support provided by the Canadian Olympic Committee to Canadian athletes and sport federations. Named as Director, Games in 2013, Andrew oversaw the planning and delivery for Canada’s largest ever multi-sport Games delegation at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games and Canada’s most successful Winter Olympic Games team in PyeongChang 2018. 

In his current role of Chief External Affairs Officer, Andrew leads the COC’s International Relations, Government Relations and communications teams efforts. Responsible for COC’s efforts to bring the Olympic & Paralympic Games back to Canada, Andrew led the BC2030 Feasibility Team under the leadership of the Lil’wat, Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, building a proposal to bring the Winter Games back to BC in 2030.

Andrew graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Sports Administration from Laurentian University in 2005 and holds an Executive MBA from Queens University and Cornell University. In 2015, he was a recipient of the “5 to Watch” in Canadian Sport Business award. A lifelong athlete, in the sports of soccer, athletics and volleyball, Andrew continues to enjoy pushing himself in a Crossfit gym or while training for sporadic triathlons. He is inspired by his father’s regular cross country skiing and biking in pursuit of lifelong physical health and believes in the important role that physical activity can play in all stages of one’s life.
